Teachable APP Review: Classroom DOJO

Image
Teachable App Review: APP- Classroom DOJO How long have I used this APP I have been using this app for three years. I am an Exceptional Education Teacher, teaching students with disabilities in a self- contained setting.  Price Free Purpose of the APP This APP has multiple purposes. My main purpose for using Classroom DOJO is for parental communication. Class Story- You can use this feature as a way to communicate with the students and parents as a group. I send pictures of class activities, newsletters, assignments, and upcoming events. Behavior Management- Each student is given an avatar. The students are able to earn points for positive classroom rules (there is a negative feature too, but I do not use that feature).  If you share a classroom (co-teacher, paraprofessional, etc), you can share Class DOJO to get additional feedback. I do not use the negative feature, but I can directly message a parent for personal messages that are not meant for the class story. I can also r...

Teachable Theme: My Hair is Different, My Hair is Beautiful

Image
Teachable Theme:  My Hair is Different, My Hair is Beautiful I know so many children that wish they had different hair. Its time that we teach our children that they/we all have different hair. Being able to change you hair style, color, shape, and texture makes having "different" hair FUN! Growing up, I wanted a relaxer so that I could have long straight hair, I never wore my hair natural (unless it was a 70's themed party). I started to put these same thoughts in my daughters head at a young age, but realized this was not healthy. I started to teach her that she was created with think, kinky, natural, beautiful hair. She now embraces her hair with many styles, colors, and protective style options. She keeps her hair healthy and creates a new VIBE weekly. As an adult, I am just learning how to address my beautiful AND natural hair.  Children's Book for this Theme:  Happy Hair by Mechal Renee Roe I am learning new home hair conditioning treatments as well as learning ...

Quarantine Cook 2020

Image
No More Fast Food... It wasn't until quarantine 2020, that I decided my family needed to have more home cooked meals and stick with it. The day after my birthday, the Coronorvirus changed our world. I rushed to pick up my son from college and my daughter and I were displaced from returning to school. It was a hard to decide what to do next, but knowing that this virus was easily spread, let me know one thing... I needed groceries and I needed them quick. 🛒 My cousin and I rushed to the grocery store and purchased food and supplies to last for weeks. I was a full believer of the virus and all that was to come. As items like Lysol and Tissue became hard to find, I stocked up.😷 Little to say, we had no reason to leave the house. I decided for my family of three, that we would only eat what we prepared. This was a hard decision, because if you know me... I am not a cook. I had a meal plan created and placed on the fridge. My kids even started complimenting me on my meals. As thi...

Freshman Packing List

Image
Last year, my son was an incoming freshman at Hampton University. It was hard to decide exactly what he needed so I compiled a list of must haves for incoming freshman. I also added a few tips... Create an Amazon Wish List- its the best thing since SLICED BREAD!. There will be people that pop up that you didn't even know you knew that wants to know what your incoming freshman needs. With the wish list, you can immediately let them choose.  Plan a Trunk Packing Hour- Many people want to see the graduate in person. Have a set time when visitors can come to drop off gifts or give farewell remarks If your child will be in an organized group such as band, basketball, tennis, football. cheer, and others, you will need to check for additional updates to add to your shopping list.  If there are pre-summer reading requirements, add it to your wish list too.  Don;t forget, gift cards is the easiest gift if you are unsure of what is needed next,  Once you have the Freshman dorm...
